Hilton
Falls Conservation Area, Milton.
A branch of the Sixteen Mile Creek flows over the Niagara Escarpment at Hilton Falls Conservation Area. In the picture below I am at the edge of the 10m falls looking downstream. The park has some great trails that wind through a large forest - including old growth cedar trees, and along the escarpments edge. Some of the layers of the escarpment can be seen behind the falls.
The power of the falls was harnessed with three sawmills constructed between 1835 and 1863. All that remains visible of this history is the arched outlet of the waterwheel shown in the pictures below. .. The creek races down hill towards Hilton Falls. |
Looking towards Hilton Falls with the upper viewing area and lower stairs and platform along the river. Picture made using Autostitch.
