More Fall on the Escarpment

fall leaves on the Niagara Escarpment

There are many trails and parks through Halton Hills - including the world famous Bruce Trail that runs along the Niagara Escarpment. I enter off of Highway #25 just north of Milton. The dead end street is Helena Road and the trails lead along the escarpmet and also into the bush beside a marsh.

We will try to get up to the Collingwood area soon to see what the trees look like up near Georgian Bay.

Acton High School Awards for 2006

Acton High School Band, Ontario, Canada. October 4, 2007

The 2007 Academic Awards Evening which celebrated student excellence for the 2006/2007 year was held in the Acton High School Cafetorium. Kevin joined his fellow Acton High School Band members to provide music for the event. Kevin is changing up his instruments - he was playing the trumpet but now has switched to flute. The girl beside him (far left) is Tanya - the top grade 9 student at Acton HS. Kevin received an Honours Society Award for his grade 9 marks.

When he was called up to the stage to get his award Kevin pulled the old fake out handshake on his favourite teacher - Mr Brown, then gives him a hug to make up for the joke.

Thanksgiving at Armstrong's

James, Ann and Erin by the hay bales at the Armstrong's Farm near Orillia, Ontario

Ann's relatives, Jane and Bruce Armstrong, invite us up to Thanksgiving at their farm near Orillia. We meet up with Ann's parents, Cathy and Don, and join the large gathering for a great feast. Afterwards we walk through the pastures and by the barn filled with hay. Don Mincoff takes the picture of us (James, Ann and Erin - Kevin was trying to meet the barn cats) among the hay bales.

Crowded Badlands

Kevin & Erin pose in front of the Cheltenham Badlands

After a wild weekend weather wise we enjoy a warm sunny (record breaking temperatures) at the Cheltenham Badlands in Caledon, Ontario. I was surprised at the amount of people that were on site. There was even a photo team doing a model shoot - which inspired the kids to do some poses of thier own.

You can see some more pictures here of our visit along with some earlier pictures taken in 2006.

Toronto Subway

TTC Toronto Subway cars along the Yonge line come above ground south of Eglinton

I spent a few days in Toronto attending a PWU health and safety course in the Yonge and Eglinton area. The course, the students and the teachers were great and it was a lot of fun to get away for awhile. I walked in the area and down Yonge Street and went on the Belt Line park bridge to get a view of the TTC subway cars in the open area south of Eglinton.

The Caves of Collingwood

The fall trees in Collingwood, Ontario

Fall weather had taken a turn for the worse when we ventured into the Collingwood area for a look at the colours of the trees and an adventure at the Scenic Caves of Collingwood. The wind was blowing, the rain was raining and the cool was cooling! We still had fun and we were lucky that the trees hadn't lost most of their leaves even this late in the season. By the trip home the sky had cleared up and we stopped at the Melancthon wind farm for a view of their GE wind turbine installation.

Toronto Zombie Walk

2007 Toronto Zombie Walk

Joe and I head to undead central during the 2007 Zombie walk held in Toronto since 2003. The recently living gathered in Trinity Bellwood Park - although I had brought Joe to Trinity Square by the Bell headquarters, so we rushed to the park and were amazed by the huge crowd of people participating in the event. The sidewalks along Queen St W, Bathurst and Bloor were full of the parade of zombies in search of brains. You can see more of my pictures from the journey through hell here.
