It was a beautiful
winter weekend, sunny and around freezing, when we went exploring some
waterfalls in the Hamilton area. At Tiffany Falls there was a large group
of ice
climbers scaling the vertical cliffs. You can see a picture of the
falls during my last summer visit on
this page. The picture below shows an ice climber showing fierce determination
while relying on her muscles, the twin ice picks and crampons - the rope
is just there for backup in case she falls.
You can see some
videos I took of the climbers which I have posted to Youtube here,
here and here.
We had a great
time taking pictures, enjoying nature and the sun while the hard work of
climbing the ice was done by others. Joe joins Ann and Erin on a foot bridge
over the raging river.

Mayor Rick Bonnette
I attended the
Town of Halton HillsMunicipal
Award Evening and was impressed by the Town Council operation of this
important event held to support and acknowledge local Champions in academic,
arts, culture, sports and recreation. Behind the scenes Leanne Sedentopf
and Joy Thompson kept things running smoothly and Mayor
Rick Bonnette (pictured above) helped to make the night the award winners
and their proud families will remember all their lives.

Leap Year
Erin tries out
some new funky hat to celebrate the leap year's 29th of February. It looks
like a sea monster has attached itself to her head and is trying to swallow
her whole.

A touch of snow
Ann and I have
returned from the Acton Curling
Club where our team went down in flames as we finish our regular season
games - next stop the playoffs. For some reason it was snowing in Acton
during winter and we have had a few inches accumulation. Next week which
was supposed to be sunny has been revised to include snow for every day
- except this Sunday. Here is a look down Mill Street.
The dismal weather
follows the news that the Olde
Hide House is now in Bankruptcy protection and merchandise is being
liquidated at the three store locations - including the flagship Acton
store. I hear that sales of 40% off are happening and that a lot of leather
furniture is being sold. Hopefully they will be able to continue in business
and remain in Acton for a long time to come. Note: we dropped by on Sunday
March 2nd and the crowds were amazing - I have never seen it busier. The
sale was 40 to 40% off furniture and clothing and sadly we could still
not afford their stuff.

Humber Bay, Toronto
This is a perfect
example of the development of the Lake Ontario waterfront - a solid wall
of condominiums face the Lake at Humber Bay in Toronto. Some Canada Geese
find an open spot to eat some grass during a sunny winter's day.
The water is open
in spots in Humber Bay and some of the ice has been churned up by the waves
and now resembles ice rocks.
