Rockwood waterfall
|
Ann went on a
girls night out evening so I decided to make a return visit to the Rockwood
Conservation Area - just 20 minutes to the west of Acton (follow Highway
7 towards Guelph). The night was falling and I ventured into the woods
(they have a great trail set up now) to see what I could see.
The scenery in
the park is fantastic and the entrance fee of $4.25 (2008 season, adult)
is well worth the money. I did see a blue heron waiting patiently along
the shoreline for a fish to come close and there were plenty of fish catching
insects along the surface of the water.
Inside the forest
some of the limestone depressions collect water and are covered in a vibrant
green algae. The Grand River flowing into the conservation area passes
over an old dam, below, which they are trying to decide what to do with
now (ie refurbish or remove).
It was a beautiful
night (with no rain) and it was a very pleasant exploration of the beauty
of Ontario. PS we are starting to notice some of the trees around us starting
to change colour as fall quickly approaches.
