It's Ontario's
Family Day long weekend and the weather has been very kind to us. I take
Erin and we wander around Acton near Robert Little Public School. The Acton
Post Office is in the Federal Building and the coat of arms is shown above.
We see part of
the old Acton City Hall building below. This is the balcony where the old
mayor would have come out and issued his proclamations and increased taxes.
The line of historic
Acton syndicate townhouses bask in the sun, much like they would have been
in the old days of 1882. The satellite dish would have been made of wood
and probably picked up only one or two channels - probably both would have
been the CBC.
Wandering the
fantastic grounds of the Robert Little Public School we come upon the preserved
bell and old foundation block with the date of 1892.

Cambridge traffic
circle
With Family Day
still bright and full of promise I decide to head into areas that we usually
don't venture around although at first we stopped at Mohawk
Raceway for a little gambling. As highrollers we bet $25 and ended
up winning $49 so I thought we were off to a lucky day. Heading west along
Highway 401 we looked at all the blue signs showing tourist attractions.
We found one sign
that said Yee Haw Adventure
Farm and we took the off ramp and set off to search for the farm. I
had fun when we came to a traffic circle in Cambridge, Ontario (pictured
above). I had to circle back because I took the wrong branch and then I
did one extra circle before we broke to the right on Townline Road. Continuing
our journey we followed many a blue tourist sign for the farm but we eventually
lost the signs on Hamilton's Highway 97. As the afternoon was getting late
and we had wasted quite a bit of time we decided to head back home. The
signs didn't say but it looks like the farm is only open in the fall so
it would have been disappointing if we had actually made it to Yee Haw.

Acton H.S.
Yuk Yuks
Acton High School
held their annual Yuk Yuks comedy night in support of the High School Band's
upcoming trip to Montreal. Comedian John Ki is above and the headlining
lady below - I can't remember her name and I can't find her on the web.
She was a teacher from Calgary and now lives in Toronto. She looks like
Sarah Palin with a fancy hairdo. They both did some great comedy and the
host and Mike, a local and vocal teenager, traded quips all night.

Starlight Cafe
- MYAC Coffee House
One of Acton's
favourite musicians - Robin
Jupiter, peformed at the Mayor's Youth Action Committee's Coffee House
at the Starlight Cafe. The event was full of talented performers playing
before a packed house. Robin will be in a new band, which I believe will
be called 'Wonder Works' and is looking forward to recording their first
CD.

Sunrise
Working early
in the morning you get to see a few nice sunrises every now and then -
less in the winter, and the sun certainly helps to beat the February blahs.
