Cool Boots in TO

Girl in large platform boots in Toronto

While in Toronto for the Billy Joel concert we were pretty sure that we saw Baby Spice from the Spice Girls. The spring weather finally got turned up a notch and we were enjoying the warmth and sun that is even better on a Friday. People were out in everything from parkas and scarves to shorts in the big city.

Coming from a small town we find it amazing the sheer number of people who walk past you in downtown Toronto. It's one of the best parts of the city.

Bruce Trail at Milton Quarry

Erin holds some spring flowers picked along the Bruce Trail (Niagara Escarpment) in Milton.

The weekend continues with some more fanatastic weather. It is 25 degrees Celcius out while normal temperatures are supposed to be around 13. Spring is in overdrive so we force Erin to accompany us as we explore some of the Bruce Trail, which winds along the Niagara Escarpment, just north of Milton.

Some of the trees are starting to bud and the spring flowers provide some nice colour.

We gain access to the Bruce Trail off the north end of Dublin Line - north of Campbellville Road. This side trail climbs quickly until we meet the Bruce Trail. Turning left or west we hike until we come to the Milton Quarry and the Dufferin Quarry Bridge (built in 1991).

Erin and Ann are right beside the 100m drop while the camera is looking southeast towards Canada's fastest growing urban area - Milton.

Boat House - Fairy Lake

Acton's Prospect Park Boat House beside Fairy Lake.

The spring weather continues up on the escarpment but no one is on the old beach on Fairy Lake. This is the old boathouse in Prospect Park used for boat rentals, snack bar and daycare. The snack bar never seems to open anymore. The small kids pool is just on the other side of this building.

The ducks and geese are starting to pair up and establish nest sites - pretty soon there will be the cutest little baby ducks quacking all over the place.

Acton's Fairy Lake at sunset, with a pair of mallard ducks swimming in the water.

I noticed that organized baseball has already started to play - Kevin has decided not to join this year.

HMCS Halifax in TO

HMCS Halifax at Queens Quay in the Toronto Harbour

The HMCS Halifax frigate was in town for a Great Lakes Deployment tour. It was docked on Queens Quay in Toronto Harbour over the weekend the public was welcome to tour the vessel during it's stay. We walked the wrong way and had to ask for help in finding the vessel. It was an interesting tour and at the end we stopped by the marine and army information booths.

Erin wanted to get us a wrist armband and folding spinning disk and they made her drop and do 15 pushups - then another two, just like the army!
